We've cast doubt on a trade for Preston Wilson, but, you might ask, for whom do we think the Nationals should trade?
Well, here are some possibilities: Mike Cameron (.365 OBP, .508 SLG, .873 OPS), Matt Lawton (.379 OBP, .460 SLG, .838 OPS), and Ken Griffey (.354 OBP, .524 SLG, .879 OPS), and even Alfonso Soriano (.308 OBP, .527 SLG, .835 OPS) and Jason Giambi (.424 OBP, .452 SLG, .876 OPS), to name just a few (all of those are 2005 stats, by the way). All of these players are rumored to be on the trading block, and most of them can be acquired at (or something near) bargain prices. The A's, for example, are rumored to be interested in Giambi so long as the Yankees pay 90% of his salary. All of them would give the Nationals a significant offensive upgrade, and while some would present positional problems, isn't it worth at least investigating whether the team can work out those problems? Our point isn't that the Nationals should definitely trade for one or more of these players; rather, out point is that there are a lot better options out there than Wilson, a guy who probably won't give us the production Junior Spivey gives us.
