Month | Average Attendance |
April | 30,806 |
May | 33,328 |
June | 33,115 |
July | 37,455 |
August | 37,471 |
September | 29,090 |
The September figure is a bit unreliable given that we're still in the month's first week, but the trend is not good.
Why has attendance declined?
Perhaps it was holiday weekend, but the attendance on the Saturday of Fourth of July weekend was 40,488. Last Saturday it was 30,561.
Maybe it's the start of school, but that doesn't explain the low weekend attendance.
Maybe it's the start of football season--wait, that doesn't work because football seasons hasn't even started!
Who knows why attendance has been off, but it doesn't make sense to us. The weather is beautiful, the team is in a playoff race, and it's BASEBALL IN WASHINGTON!
Hopefully this is a passing trend, and we'll get back to higher attendance soon.

I think the cool kid at school stopped going. You know how that starts a trend.
Honestly, there is no good reason for attendance to drop so much. My guess is
1) Labor Day weekend and the whole Hurricane vibe did kill this weekend.
2) that the right teams just came into play other months. The draws are the Mets, Cubs, Dodgers, Cards. 29K for middle of the week night games against teams that are not draws seems about right for the rest of the year.
All good points, especially the one about the cool kid.
