How about this guy for GM?

Brian Cashman may be ready to leave the Yankees. It just so happens that Cashman is from this area. And it also just so happens that the Nationals are in desperate need for a qualified, creative GM. That all works out, doesn't it? Now all we need is an owner to pull the trigger on the deal.

As nice as that sounds, Jim Bowden has done a great job with the budget that they've had and deserves to keep his job as GM.

Cashman may have done a great job with an unlimited budget, but that's no mean feat, who couldn't?

Let's see what Bowden can do with a bigger budget than he's had.

We agree that Cashman has to prove himself running a team with a payroll of less than $200 million. But we don't agree that Bowden deserves another year as GM. True, Bowden has never had a big payroll to play with, but neither have some other GMs who have enjoyed significant success. The fact is that in both Cincinatti and Washington Bowden hasn't been able to build significant success. In other words, there isn't a lot in Bowden's past to merit reupping his contract.
