Tonight's Game

The Nationals do not have nearly the disadvantage going into tonight's game that they had in both Atlanta and Florida.

Esteban Loaiza goes for the Nats and Jeff Weaver for the Dodgers. Loaiza was the model of consistency in July; Weaver didn't fare as well:

Pitcher --- ERA --- K/BB --- K/9 -- BB/9 -- HR/9
Loaiza ---- 2.73 --- 4.00 ---- 6.55 -- 1.64 -- .55
Weaver --- 4.83 --- 2.86 ---- 5.68 -- 1.99 -- 1.71

Not surprisingly, the Dodgers hit better than the Nationals in July

Team ------- OBP --- SLG --- OPS
Nationals ---- .296 -- .330 -- .627
Dodgers ----- .325 -- .395 -- .720

If the Nats are going to have any chance of winning, they have to raise their OBP substantially. There is no way that a team with a sub-.300 OBP is going to win consistently. As a start, how about benching Cristian Guzman? His OBP in July was .191.
